When Dreams Meet Opportunity: My ZICTA ICT 2025 Innovation Program Story. By Emmanuel Mwamba “Innovation opens doors, but only to those who dare to knock.” At university, we all have dreams. Some dream of finishing with top grades. Some dream of landing the perfect job. But deep down, many of us share one burning question: Can my ideas really make an impact in the real world? For me, that question stopped being a theory the moment I received the news: I had been selected for the ZICTA ICT 2025 Innovation Program. Out of more than 535 candidates, only 100 were shortlisted—and my name appeared on the list, sitting at number 66. That moment wasn’t just about being on a list. It was about proof. Proof that students can step into innovation spaces that once felt reserved only for “professionals.” Proof that what we’re building in our dorms, labs, and laptops can matter. The Project That Made It Possible: CareerPath AI The project that earned me a place in this program is called CareerPath AI. At its heart, CareerPath AI is about solving a real struggle students (youths) face: What comes next after graduation? Too many of us feel lost between the classroom and the workplace. CareerPath AI is designed to bridge that gap—helping students and graduates explore careers, connect with opportunities, and get tailored guidance powered by technology. It’s more than just an app. It’s a step toward answering those restless student questions with real, practical solutions. Still Under Development. Building Beyond: ShopLink Market CareerPath AI may be the project that got me noticed, but it’s not the only one I’m building. Another initiative I’ve been working on is ShopLink Market, a platform that connects vendors and buyers in a digital marketplace. ShopLink Market is about creating opportunities, not just for students, but for everyday entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses online. It’s simple, practical, and rooted in the belief that technology should empower people, not intimidate them. Still Under Development. The Bigger Picture These projects—and the recognition that came with the ZICTA ICT 2025 Innovation Program—aren’t just about me. They’re reminders that innovation doesn’t wait for a graduation certificate. It starts where you are, with what you have, and with the courage to take the first step. And that’s what I hope my story says to someone out there: You don’t have to wait until you “know everything.” You don’t have to be the smartest in the room. You just have to begin. Dreams are real. Opportunities are real. But they only meet in the lives of those who dare to act.
