So What? You Graduated.
Graduation season is almost over and I will not lie I enjoyed my graduation ceremony. However, I’ve also seen a surge in posts that promote the tag, “The degree is just a paper”. At one point someone make a suggestive post you’d think he wanted to nullify the program altogether, his argument, “ The graduates from that program where scams.” I agree to a certain extent, with AI and professional writers, you can be accredited without stepping foot in class except for presentations maybe. All the way to PHD, someone is offering to write assignments and dissertations for a small fee. It then becomes a paper. Now before you crucify me for saying this, hear me out instead of letting AI add value to your assignment why don’t you reverse the roles? It should just fix spelling errors if possible and not do the thinking for you, for example, this post is not AI generated and you can tell by that silly authenticity where you can comment she needs to work on her vocabulary. That is exactly what the world is looking for!!! You waltz in with an upper first degree not baked by you best believe you’ll fail that interview because you don’t know it all. You don’t even understand your own degree! I’ve been reading and I came across this quote from Paul Brezhnev Banda’s book You Turned 30, Now What?. It says, “ we learn multiplication, we don’t learn how to multiply all the numbers we encounter. We understand the principle that will allow us to solve any multiplication challenge we might meet. The PRINCIPLE is the most important thing not the Numbers”. Interesting right? Now that is what we learn at university. It’s drilled to the point where my profession becomes an identity if someone was to ask who you are you define yourself using your career or profession, “ I am a Financial Engineer” or “I’m a Doctor”, strange but true we don’t know ourselves. Where is this all going? Education is a continuous process, it doesn’t stop when I wear that cap, hood and gown. Soft skills are a must, other skills by all means cultivate them. Let it be your habit to forever solve real problems. Our idea of Education is so low that when someone suggests inventing something well we all shrink, in fact I do believe we are the most stupidest generation of all time, thanks to our forefathers who invented things for man to use. We wouldn’t even have AI had someone chose to be lazy about it the way we are nowadays. There is a time for everything, now that your parents have celebrated your success in school and you’re a graduate why don’t you put your parents investment to good use? Do you even realise that you were their investment all this while and when they retire it’s upon you to give them daily bread?
