My whole of first year experience is worth telling

At least you can relate to this, getting a place at the university of Zimbabwe or any other university of your choice with your preferred program is like a dream come true and an answered prayer. August 2024 is when my journey started, I was accepted at the university of Zimbabwe with with software engineering program. But to tell the truth my Software engineering Journey had already started even before I was accepted and enrolled, I was already getting my hands dirty with some python codes and my mind was already generating some cool software ideas. This is when I got the idea for VarsityBlog But everything was delayed because I lacked some mentorship and proper guidance on how to learn tech skills to build and scale. Starting my first lecture being introduced to some concepts that I already knew was much much more interesting. But regardless of that I continued to learn more technologies since I had a vision to build something powerful. I wanted to stay ahead of everyone. When I was pushing through my first year thinking that I was ahead of every guy in there, this is when I realized that there where some guys who were much much more ahead of us, imagine learning with someone who started coding during his early high school time whilst you have just started some few months before varsity, Yar Quite funny right. I was then worried but that fact was food for my thought for some time. I then came to a point that I made up my mind that I need not to act like I am competing with anyone, I just need to work onto my purpose, my vision and what I wanted. Back to track I continued learning on myself and on my skills. This was the usual routine, learn a module mostly for three weeks then write the exam in the forth week or learn it for six weeks. Actually it was to my surprise that after three weeks being at the university of Zimbabwe i was already writing exams, i was like ohh no can't they give us time to at least celebrate this great achievement of enrolling at a university. I also went through my first year fighting procrastination, this was it, assignments where always submitted a day before the due date , I am grateful that at the end of my first year I had frighted this procrastination thing. I am the kind of person that have never stressed about finding a friend on campus, the guys I was linking up with we already started linking up before the school thought the WhatsApp groups. As we continued I went on to get to meetup and knowing more people in my class and even outside my field because of things in common or shared experience. No one cared about knowing each others names, it was only the technique of mixing during group works that have allowed us to know each other. I can't say my first year was hard it was quite fair, good passing grades but it was quite busy one for me. But wait I have a lot of things I wish a lot of tech students, me and even my class would have done to get the most out of their first year 1)Stop worrying about either its a distinction or a 2.1 (i know most of people argue this) 2)Work on Your Personal Skills more that you work for the grade book 3)Do not be over reliant on the lecturer, you need to learn code outside the lecture room 4)Do not try to learn a lot of skills at the same time, pick a technologies, give more time to learn and master it. 5)You do not need to be a master or obtain a degree so that you start building. ......
