First-Year Survival at UZ: Tips & Truths (AI &ML)
Hey guys! Welcome to the most prestigious university in Zimbabwe (UZ). I know this might be a little late for a welcome message, but it might still be worth it, right? Well, being a freshman was something else for me. New environment, new faces, it was overwhelming. But here I am, I survived my first year, but it was chaotic. That's what pushed me to write this. Thanks to my fellow brother, a developer, Blessed Tendai Mufambisi, for creating a platform(Varsity Blog) where we can share tips on different topics, cultivate relationships, and stay connected.. To my fellow AI & ML enthusiasts, here's a free piece of advice: •Stay curious and keep learning: This field is evolving faster than we can imagine. There's always something to learn. •Master the fundamentals: Don't make the mistake of skipping the basics. You'll regret it later, trust me _~(im not saying i did that)~_. Programming, mathematics, and statistics are essential in this field. •Don't be afraid tobask for help: This is now different from high school. If you were one of those who didn't want to work with others, please bury that habit. Lectures and classmates are all there to help. To everyone starting : •Find your balance between academics, social life, and personal time. It's okay to take a break and recharge. •Take care of yourself physically, socially, mentally, and emotionally. You're going to need your energy for the late night study sessions and assignments. •Be patient with yourselves. This uni thing is overwhelming at times, but just remember that it's okay to make mistakes. We all do. Just stay focused and enjoy the journey. I am excited to have you as part of this vibrant institution. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We're here to support and learn from each other because no one has it all figured out. Best wishes for a successful and enjoyable university experience. Euclide Mtisi
