One of those voices is Alex Panashe Dande, a Zimbabwean podcaster, filmmaker, author, and entrepreneur best known for founding Reality Edge Network, a youth-focused digital media platform.

From filming videos using a smartphone to building a growing online media presence, Alex Dande represents a new wave of independent creators who are reshaping how young people in Zimbabwe share stories and discuss important issues.

Early Life and Education

Alex Panashe Dande was born in Mutare, Zimbabwe, and raised in the suburb of Dangamvura. He is the eldest of three siblings and grew up in a Christian household.

He attended Sheni Government Primary School, where he completed his early education from Grade 1 to Grade 7. During this time, Alex developed a strong interest in art and the English language, subjects in which he consistently performed well.

For secondary school, he enrolled at St. Dominic’s High School in Mutare, a Catholic institution known for its academic discipline. Admission to the school was highly competitive, and although Alex had strong primary school results, securing a place initially proved challenging. With the support of his mother, he eventually joined the school and adapted to its demanding academic environment.

Mathematics proved to be a difficult subject for him, which influenced his academic direction later on. Instead, he focused on subjects that aligned with his strengths such as English Literature and History.

During his final year at St. Dominic’s High School, Alex Dande was appointed school prefect, a leadership position considered an honor within the school community.

He completed his A-Level examinations with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) in 2020, though the results were delayed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and were released in April 2021.

University Journey

After completing his A-Levels, Alex hoped to immediately enroll at university. However, financial challenges delayed those plans.

In 2022, he was accepted into the University of Zimbabwe in Harare, where he began pursuing higher education alongside longtime friends and former classmates.

During this period, his interest in digital storytelling, media production, and public conversations about youth issues continued to grow.

The Reality Podcast With Alex

On 14 October 2023, Alex Dande officially launched The Reality Podcast With Alex, a youth-centered podcast exploring topics such as:

• Mental health

• Relationships

• Personal development

• Social issues affecting young people

The idea for the podcast had existed for years and was inspired partly by global podcasters such as Jay Shetty and Alex’s early exposure to public speaking during his time in Toastmasters activities while in high school.

Unlike many digital creators who begin with professional studios, Alex started with extremely limited resources.

Using money from his monthly student grocery allowance, he purchased a ring light and a microphone and began recording videos using a Samsung M33 smartphone.

The first trailer for the podcast was filmed with the help of two university friends and uploaded to YouTube in October 2023.

Early Production Challenges

Producing the first episodes of The Reality Podcast With Alex came with numerous obstacles.

Alex struggled to find consistent recording locations and reliable equipment. Some potential collaborations fell through at the last minute, forcing him to rely on simple recording setups.

The podcast’s first episode focused on mental health and featured guest Gibson Magaramombe. It was recorded using a smartphone and edited independently.

Despite these limitations, Alex continued producing episodes and gradually built recognition among university students and online viewers.

His mother later contributed by purchasing a studio microphone, significantly improving the audio quality of the show.

Breakthrough Moments

One of the most notable milestones in the growth of Alex Dande’s podcast came when he interviewed Tendayi Mushayi, who was serving as the President of the University of Zimbabwe Student Representative Council (SRC) at the time.

The episode was filmed using a smartphone by collaborators Jetro Mpofu and Blessed, with creative assistance from Alex’s close friend Sharlom M.

The interview later became the most-viewed video on his YouTube channel during the time, marking an important step forward for the podcast.

Reality Edge Network

As his content expanded, Alex Dande decided to transform his podcast into a larger digital media project. This was a big and risky transition and Alex decided to take the risk.

He rebranded the platform as Reality Edge Network, a multi-format online media platform designed to produce diverse forms of digital content.

Recognition and Media Appearances

In January 2026, Alex Dande received the Creative Content Creator Award for Rising TV & Radio Personality at the Ignite Youth Awards.

He has also appeared on Diamond FM, a radio station based in Mutare, where he participated in multiple guest sessions discussing digital media and youth empowerment.

Videography and Creative Style

Alex Dande’s production style is notable for its simplicity and creativity.

Most of his ealier videos were filmed using smartphones, including a Samsung M33 5G and an iPhone 11 used by collaborator Jetro Mpofu.

In mid 2025, Alex was able to purchase a digital camera which marked as a turning point in his production as he started mass production of content.

He is largely self-taught, having learned video editing and filmmaking through YouTube tutorials and hands-on experimentation.

His editing process primarily uses Filmora, while Adobe Premiere Pro is used for sound design.

Rather than focusing on viral trends or short-lived online topics, Alex prefers to create timeless and reflective content centered on storytelling, personal growth, and meaningful conversations.

Personal Life

Outside of podcasting and media production, Alex Dande is also a published author. His books include The Complexities of Love and Failed Expectations: Young Adults, which explores themes of relationships and youth experiences.

He enjoys fitness and regularly visits the gym when possible. In his free time, he also plays video games, particularly Call of Duty and racing games similar to Need for Speed.

Musically, he enjoys artists such as Holy Ten and Drake.

The Future of Alex Dande

Looking ahead, Alex Dande plans to continue expanding Reality Edge Network and grow his digital media presence.
