The Harsh Truth About Industrial Attachment & The Job Market in Zimbabwe My Current Reality
Right now, I’m actively looking for industrial attachment. And let me be brutally honest: it’s tough. Not because I’m not skilled or willing to learn but because the system is broken. Here’s what I’ve learned on the ground: Some companies don’t even respond to applications. Others want you to already have experience before the experience. Most placements don’t offer mentorship or growth just free labor. And if you don’t have “connections” or money, you’re left behind. All of this makes me ask: What is attachment really for? Are we being prepared for real work, or just checking boxes for a degree? The truth is, many students like me are stuck in limbo trying to get attachment, trying to learn, trying to prepare for a job market that already demands 2-3 years of experience we haven’t even had the chance to gain. But despite all this, I’m still pushing. I'm learning on my own, building real-world projects, and preparing myself beyond the classroom because if I don’t, who will? Attachment in Zimbabwe needs serious reform. We need opportunities that build skills, not drain students. We need mentorship, not silence. We need systems that support, not frustrate. To students still searching like me — keep pushing. To employers — give us a real shot. To the system — it’s time to change.
