University is where the real life starts. It's where all the preparation from High School is going to be put to use. It's either you start building on your foundation and improve yourself or you sit on your own potential and end up erasing all the 13 or so years of hardwork you have invested in yourself. It is of course a given that all of us are different in our own ways, but once you have been embroiled in the thick soup of diversity that is Campus, everything around you affects what you do if you let it. In terms of academics, there's always going to be that one person with not an endless string of distinctions but will whine along with the crowd in such a way that you'll believe they're struggling. The moment you let what people say make you feel at ease as if it's a norm, you're trapped. You're here to focus on your own development, not to follow the 'trend'. People are always complaining, "there are no jobs and we aren't going anywhere. Education is not necessary for success". Let me tell you, there's a reason why there's only one Elon Musk. Opportunities are everywhere but they're not going to come knocking at your door. It's up to you to spot them and grab at them. There are many people doing many things, network with the requisite crowd and get involved. At University, achievements are recognised and awards are given but they're not like trees that grow everywhere, you need to work for them. Always take a moment to analyse yourself and not the progress you have made. If you don't see any progress, then there's something you're not doing or you're doing it wrong. Some say varsity life is free and it's the time to enjoy life, that is indeed true, but the cost is high. Now is the time to set foundations, and your discipline determines the strength of that foundation. We are currently in the information age and the ones who have greater knowledge and know how to use it are the kings. There's a limit to what a "link" can do. No one will settle for low quality product for their company just because they want their friends employed. With knowledge and expertise, people will seek you out because you can give them a better service and there's so much more you'll be capable of. In this technological revolution, we all are at the same starting point, young or old. Yes, some are a few lines ahead of you, but it doesn't make them better. Your input is what matters. It's difficult but once you are past a certain threshold, it's actually a delightful experience.
