A Day in My BCom Information Systems Studies
Students often ask me how to achieve more in their academic journey. In my experience, it comes down to a well-designed system—intentional habits that compound over time. I honed this approach during my BCom in Information Systems at Great Zimbabwe University. This was a typical day, structured to balance intense academic focus with essential physical and mental renewal. This is what dedicated execution looked like. My Daily Framework for Focus and Results 03:00 - 05:00 | Deep Work Session My day began while the campus slept. These two undisturbed hours were dedicated to tackling the most complex subjects—especially my major. This was my prime time for focused learning and building an unshakeable command of the material. 05:00 - 06:00 | Morning Movement Before engaging my mind, I fueled my body. A session at the stadium was a core ritual to boost energy, clear my head, and build the discipline that carried into the lecture hall. 06:00 - 07:00 | Strategic Alignment & Fuel A quick check of the class WhatsApp group to confirm the day's schedule—efficiency was key. Then, a proper breakfast at the dining hall to ensure I was physically prepared for the day ahead. 08:00 - 13:00 | Lecture Block I & II From the first lecture at 8 AM through to the end of the second, my focus was on active listening and engagement. We'd then break for a well-earned lunch to refuel and recharge. 14:00 - 17:00 | Lecture Block III The afternoon lecture required sustained attention. The discipline built in the early morning made this final academic push not just possible, but productive. 17:00 - 18:00 |Dinner More than a meal, this was a mental transition from a day of consumption to an evening of collaboration. 18:00 - 20:00 | Mastermind Sessions This was where theoretical knowledge became practical skill. Holding structured discussions with classmates or preparing for presentations forced us to articulate, debate, and solidify our understanding. This is where true learning crystallized. 21:00 - 03:00 |Rest Off to bed. A full six hours of dedicated sleep was non-negotiable for memory consolidation and mental recovery. Protecting this rest period was as critical as any study session. A Note on Sustainable Performance A schedule like this is a framework for achievement, but it's not rigid. The most effective systems are adaptable. There were, of course, days when my calendar was open. I strategically used those for essential rest, passion projects, and spontaneous connections—because balance is what prevents burnout and fuels long-term success. This system worked for me because it was my system, built around my goals. Now, I'd love to hear from you.
